URNA

Commissioned by the Maltese Arts Council, Winning Proposal of the 2025 London Design Biennale

Collaboration with URNA Project Team

URNA re-imagines materialization by integrating human remains with waste quarry stone, forging a new geological layer where past and present merge. Sedimentary rock, already composed of millions of years of compressed organic life, becomes the vessel for a renewed life cycle—one where human ashes are absorbed into stone, transforming into evolving spherical monuments. As the selected concept for the Maltese Pavilion at the London Design Biennale 2025, URNA challenges the perception of death as an end, instead proposing an ongoing material and spiritual transformation. The project explores how humans become part of the geological record, blurring the boundaries between the natural and the man-made, the ephemeral and the eternal.
